Batam Cycle 2022
This cycling expedition will bring our cyclists to explore two idyllic places in Batam, namely Nongsa and Barelang over 2 days.
Day one ride in Nongsa is a prelude to the main ride on day two in Barelang. Nongsa is in the north-eastern region of Batam which boasts of some international-class resorts, golf courses, a studio complex, a botanical garden, and an idyllic kampung community, among others. One loop within the Nongsa region may be just 12KM but the undulating terrain tests the endurance of even the hardcore cyclists.
However, the highlight of the ride is still Barelang and the name is derived from three main islands, Batam, Rempang, and Galang connected by six bridges at the southern tip of Batam to the rest of the outlying islands further south. The gruelling ride starts at the first bridge in Batam to the last bridge in Galang Bahru spanning the distance of 55KM before making a u-turn to complete a total distance of 110KM. The ride is not expected to be easy-peasy given the fearful ‘dragon back’ awaits our cyclists. However, take comfort that this is a fully supported ride in Barelang and at any point in time you decide to stop, just hop onto the coach. This is one heck of a ride unmatched anywhere in Singapore upon completion.
The overnight stay is at the newly renovated Batam View Beach Resort which boasts 212 mostly sea-facing views complete with a wide range of facilities and amenities.

Q1. Is the ride tough?
The two routes, Nongsa and Barelang are known for their undulating terrain akin to what most will name it riding the ‘Dragon Back’. Yes, you must be a competent rider and physically fit. Not to be daunted, the long ride of 110KM in Barelang is fully supported and anytime one decides not to ride, just hop on to the comfort of our air-con coach for your well-deserved rest.
Q2. What type of bike is best suited for this ride?
Road bikes, hybrid bikes, or mountain bikes are suitable for the ride.
Q3. Can my family members who are non-cyclists join in?
Yes, family members can join the tour of Batam on day two while the cycling entourage is riding in Barelang. They can rejoin the main group for lunch upon completion of the ride. We will make ready non-cyclist rate soon.
Q4. Do I need to be fully vaccinated to travel to Batam?
Yes, you must be fully vaccinated which must be shown on your TraceTogether app to travel to Batam. For Singaporeans, there is no need to apply for a visa if your passport has more than 6 months to expire. For other nationals, please check with the Indonesian embassy for visa requirements.
